  We were so impressed by the food that we went back again for a three course. Then we were served grilled cheese with fig sauce and foie gras with sweet caramelized onions as starters. For main course we had the special of the day, a typical stew from the area with rice, potatoes, prawns and sea bass in a red pepper and tomato sauce. The best dinner we've had for a long time! For dessert we had puff pastry with caramel cream and cinnamon and chocolate cake with almond ice cream.

  We've eaten pretty well this holiday (Montesa being a hotspot) but this beats all in terms of quality and indeed value. We ate top class tapas/starters and a main, plus a bottle of wine, under €60. Waiting style was friendly, very helpful, and incredibly patient, explaining local traditions, their recipes, and working hard to try to translate a busy menu into English. Also advised us we didn't need two mains in our case (yep, we struggled to finish it, couldn't eat dessert, and left a fair amount of wine). Very clever starters especially involved lots of work and sure taste contrasts. Wish we were staying longer

  The owner of the restaurant is very nice, she speaks good English and tried to translate most of the menu for us, even though we didn't ask her to. It feels like you are coming into someones home and she makes you feel very welcome. We didn't have a car when we stayed here, and the owner of the restaurant even offered to drive us to the nearest city whenever we needed to go shopping. Never had service like this anywhere before.

  We stayed in Rugat for a few weeks at a camping site. Menjars Clareta is one of the best restaurants we have eaten at in Spain. They serve typical food from the area, we tried whole fried fish and pork served on a hot stone with fried aubergine on the side. Delicious!
